#LondonIsOpen for Summer – London Awakens
Per qualche misteriosa ragione, nonostante io non sia esattamente un’amante delle folle, è soltanto a Londra, non proprio una delle città meno popolose, che mi sento veramente a mio agio. E non è solo perché a Londra sono nata e ho trascorso periodi bellissimi. La verità è che a Londra mi sento a casa, mi sento accolta.
Del resto Londra è un esempio di accoglienza, come ha ribadito al mondo lo stesso sindaco della città, Sadiq Khan, con la campagna #LondonIsOpen, lanciata subito dopo l’esito del referendum sulla Brexit.
Fa parte della campagna il video “LondonIsOpen for Summer- London Awakens”, un invito rivolto a tutti, famiglie londinesi e turisti, a godere a pieno dell’atmosfera unica che si respira a Londra soprattutto nel periodo estivo.
A rendere speciale questo video, oltre alle immagini di alcune delle attrazioni turistiche più amate della capitale britannica, dal London Eye alla Torre di Londra, che, già alle prime luci dell’alba, si preparano ad accogliere i visitatori, sono anche i versi recitati dalla voce narrante di Suli Breaks, esponente della Spoken Word Poetry, una forma di poesia “parlata”, alcune delle frasi più famose dedicate a questa splendida città da scrittori e poeti del calibro di William Blake, Charles Dickens, William Dunbar e Anna Quindlen.

«London is one of the most diverse, thrilling and fascinating cities in the world. It is little wonder that it has inspired some of the greatest poets over the years, who have documented its infectious buzz so well. The capital’s unique atmosphere really comes to life over summer with the best festivals, sporting events, museums, attractions and lush green spaces around every corner. […] there is no greater place on earth to explore. I’m saying loud and clear – London is open for business and open to everyone this summer.»
London Awakens
I wander thro’ each charter’d street,
Near where the charter’d Thames does flow.
The first light of the morning beats,
As London wakes, the sunrise low.
The city is a world within itself,
This city is my home.
Fresh spoils are stacked upon the shelves,
New day, fresh start, a bright-eyed glow.
London opens to me like a novel itself,
Chapters, scenes, and hidden passages.
Weaving through underground verses,
The first tube carries sleeping passengers.
London, you are the flower of cities all,
And these parks that are your lungs
Give home to creatures waking gently,
Watching on as park life runs.
And for those that leave their restful beds,
Come the early morning prizes.
